‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl

This is an extremely famous story book that was even filmed by Tim Burton. Many kids like it so I am eager to find out why it entrances so many.

I believe the crux of the magic is the expertise of Mr Dahl’s story-telling. Climax comes one by one. Though some elements were imaginary, the plot was smooth. The ending was reasonable. Naughty children were punished while the good-natured character, Charlie, was given an extraordinary gift — — the ownership of Chocolate Factory. This surprised me in the beginning since Mr Wonka, the founder of the chocolate factory had not given a slight hint of retirement during the tour of the factory. The outsiders may think that he was only trying to be nice to the kids by inviting them to the factory. He only revealed his true intention at the end. However, after second thought, you may be impressed by the cleverness of author. By inviting five kids to the factory, which was full of strange machinery and hidden danger, Mr Wonka could observe whether one of them was suitable to be made the owner of his hard work.

Mr Dahl not only provided fun for children, but lessons too. He despised kids that are greedy or watch too much TV. He even warned parents not to pander to all the needs of their children. Furthermore, bits of humour were spread throughout the story. ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is a perfect book for school vacation.

‘Stanley, Flat Again!’ by Jeff Brown

This book belongs to a series called ‘Flat Stanley’. The main character, Stanley became flat accidentally and began an adventure that was exciting and heart-warming. The story was simple, yet moving. Although it is written for children, the author gives a lesson that every adult agrees: ‘Sometimes things happen that nobody can see a reason for, and then afterwards some other thing happens, and all of a sudden it seems like the first thing had a reason after all.’

One more thing to mention, I love the illustrations by Scott Nash in this book above all. They are black-and-white but they depict the innocence of children successfully. They make reading a pleasant activity.
