‘Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator’ by Roald Dahl
This is a funny children’s book that attracts you to read from the beginning till the end non-stop. You will be amazed by the author’s imagination. Though the book was finished in the 70s’, the author described a large space hotel that orbits around the Earth. Also, the main character, Charlie and Mr Wonka were travelling in an odd spaceship, the glass elevator, when they saw devilish space organisms. They finally outwitted the organisms and went back to the Earth.
However, the story did not end then. It turned out that Mr Wonka had invented a medicine that can reverse the age of an old person. He gave these pills to Charlie’s grandparents. Yet they were so greedy that they took more than they needed. They became babies! The author was being kind so he made the ending that everyone was happy.
The author mentioned two inspiring ideas in the story. When Mr Wonka ‘s spaceship, the glass elevator, met the space hotel accidentally, Mr Wonka decided to link up with it. Some passengers were afraid that they would be regarded as intruders. Mr Wonka said they should stop asking ‘What-if’s because you could go nowhere when fearing anything bad will happen. I totally agreed with this idea since one should go ahead with determination given that you are well-prepared.
The other point is when Charlie’s grandparents were allowed to take the pills that made them young, they had a row about how many who should take. One or two of them even wanted to have all the pills. Mr Wonka was awfully disappointed for their greed and turned his back away from them. Granted, one should be aware that one will suffer when one has too much of anything, like food or fame.
