This week, we’ll continue with ‘Commit to Win — — How to Harness the Four Elements of Commitment to Reach Your Goals’ by Heidi Reeder

Treasures: What Do you Value?
1. The degree to which you bonded or identified with your workplace is called organizational commitment.

2. Three intrinsic treasures are associated with greater organizational commitment: job complexity, task importance, and autonomy.

3. Job complexity refers to whether employees feel like they are being challenged, working with interesting questions, and utilizing their skills and creativity.

4. Task importance refers to whether employees feel they are doing meaningful work.

5. Autonomy refers to whether employees are allowed and encouraged to approach their jobs in the way they see fit.

6. Three intrinsic treasures that greatly contribute to the team’s success and the development of each individual: building self-esteem, adding value to their lives, and enjoying the process.

7. The idea is, even though the work is incredibly hard, there should always be opportunities to stop and enjoy the moment.

8. When satisfaction and trust decline, one or both partners may withhold benefits, like giving affection or completing a chore, until they get something tangible first. When both people do this, the relationship ends up in a stalemate.

9. To move through this period, and get back to intrinsic treasures and higher commitment, consider two things. First, begin by contributing something small to the relationship — — an unexpected note, treat, or favour — — without expecting anything in return. Do this for a week or two and see what happens.
