This week, we’ll continue with ‘Commit to Win — — How to Harness the Four Elements of Commitment to Reach Your Goals’ by Heidi Reeder

(From the section ‘Treasures — what do you value?’)

10. You can also use communal language, like ‘us’ and ‘we’, which has been shown to lead to higher levels of commitment. When you talk to each other, say ‘our dog is making a mess’ instead of ‘your dog is making a mess.’

11. A long-term relationship will inevitably go through periods when one partner needs to carry more weight. Both people have to accept this fluctuation if the union is to remain stable.

12. If their contributions balance over time and there is a general spirit of fairness, their satisfaction will be greater.

13. If you want to increase the degree to which your employees treasure the rewards you provide, I suggest you be a little unpredictable.

14. Wait until the end of the week and without prior notification give the top salesperson the gift certificate, or tickets to a music or sporting event.

15. You can acknowledge a top employee in a public way, like on a social networking site, or privately by writing a personal thank-you note.

16. People need a baseline of expected compensation to keep coming back. But after the baseline has been met and one feels generally satisfied with the job, product, or service, it’s a good time to layer on random treasures that increase interest and commitment.

17. If you aim to increase commitment in another person or group, it’s important to discover what is rewarding from their perspective. This requires asking, listening, and observing, rather than assuming that others will treasure the same things you do.

18. The five categories of loving behaviours are: providing affirmations(verbal expressions of love), spending quality time(doing activities as a couple), giving gifts, acts of service, and physical touch.

19. Is it possible that your partner is trying to reward you in his own way, and you aren’t experiencing it because it’s in a different love language? If so, is there a way to talk about it?

現在正是冬天, 總要有些冬日寒意才像樣吧?
