‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid — — The Last Straw’
‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid — — The Last Straw’ by Jeff Kinney
‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ is a popular series children love. I borrowed this book in a library so that I can understand the reason behind. In fact, ‘wimp’ means worthless, which indicates the personality of the main character, Greg Heffley. He loves video games, watching TV, eating snacks and a pretty girl in his class. He performs awfully in physical education lessons and often flunks the school subjects. However, the writer put a happy ending lastly: Greg cared about the decency by stopping his younger brother opening their gift, which was prepared for their neighbour.
The story is enchanting and the illustrations are simple but entertaining. The writer has a correct grasp of what most children think and feel. I believe this is why the series is hugely successful.
‘Thea Stilton and the Cherry Blossom Adventure’ by Edizioni Piemme
This book belongs to the series ‘Geronimo Stilton’ which many children love. This is the first time I read the ‘girl version’, Thea Stilton. I found that its style is like Magic Tree House, where some cultural and geographical facts are presented in the story. In this book, you can have a grasp of what Kyoto and Tokyo are famous for, the meaning when the Japanese bow to you, the traditional Bunraku and so on. Nonetheless, the book is intended for older kids so the knowledge is more detailed than that in books of ‘Magic Tree House’.
Like the other books of Stilton, the story is engaging so you cannot put down the book no matter what happens. The pictures are pretty too. All in all, it is highly addictive.
