‘Dr Carbles is Losing his Marbles’ by Dan Gutman
This is a children’s book that belongs to the series, ‘My Weird School’. Each book in the series has a story about one character in the school. This book is about Dr. Carbles, the president of the Board of Education. He sacked the school principal, Mr Klutz and became the principal himself. The students were all upset because Dr. Carbles was totally different from Mr Klutz. He would order the students to march in the playground after school. He did not allow them to play after the lesson. Nonetheless, children’s book usually has a happy ending. Dr Carbles lost his job eventually and Mr Klutz returned back to the school. I will not disclose the reason why here. You can find it out by reading the book.
I have read another book in the same series before. The author has a real talent of writing funny stories. Besides, he reveals some knowledge of the adult world. For instance, after Mr Klutz was dismissed, the students visited his house and saw if he was doing well. Mr Klutz assured them that he ‘had never been happier because he did not have to write reports anymore or deal with crazy teachers, pushy parents or obnoxious kids.’ The young readers can then understand the trouble that principal is facing.
This series is a good pastime for kids.
