This book belongs to a popular series for teenagers in middle school (junior secondary level). The main characters are girls. Some of them who liked fashion formed the ‘Popular Girls Club’. They loved to hang about in the garment stores. Some of them liked to make cupcakes so they formed the ‘Cupcake Club’. Mia, the lead character in this book, was originally a member of the ‘Cupcake Club’. However, as a daughter of fashion consultant, she had a strong sense and interest in clothing so she made friends with those ‘Popular Girls’ too.

You can expect that inward conflicts arose when Mia tried to blend in the ‘Popular Girls Club’, given that the ‘Cupcake Club’ members were not fond of fashion at all. In addition, the author included the topic, ‘children’s feelings in a divorced family’. How the children has to adapt when his/her mum had a new boyfriend. How the children missed his/her dad after the court ordered them to stay with their mum. Furthermore, the skills of dealing with bossy friend are discussed in the book. A particular remark struck me, ‘Everyone is special and it is difficult for a person to change. So, either you accept him/her or stay away from him/her’.

There is some other useful knowhow that the author included, like the cost being an essential factor when doing business and the importance of a flowchart when organizing an event. All in all, the rich ‘taste’ of the book will linger in your mind hours even after putting it down.
