Edward Hopper was an American artist active in the first half of 20th century. It was not until last year that I learned that he was strongly influenced by another artist I like: Edgar Degas. Hopper seemed to be keen to depict people in a desolate unearthly world. On the other hand, Degas liked to focus on what is happening at home/entertainment premises. What they have in common is they were like photographers of a news agency, recording honestly what they saw.

Previous post about Edgar Degas: https://sky-sil24.medium.com/%E7%95%B6%E6%97%A5%E5%87%BA%E6%97%A5%E8%90%BD%E5%90%8C%E6%AD%A5%E4%B8%8A%E6%BC%94-%E8%87%B4%E9%A6%99%E6%B8%AF%E6%B5%81%E8%A1%8C%E6%96%87%E5%8C%96-2012-2017-ii-d19df7baecea

Relation between these two artists:

‘He traveled to Paris frequently as a young artist. There, he was particularly awed by the work of Edgar Degas. Hopper shared Degas’s interest both in the theater — Degas loved the backstage at the ballet, Hopper’s art is full of cinemas — and the at-times crude pleasures of contemporary life.’

In fact, I have shared some of Edward Hopper’s paintings before. However, when they were shared I’ve forgotten. Additional paintings are shared today and I hope you will enjoy.
